Flashback and throwback to 1971 when one of rock and roll’s favorite couples celebrated birth with an album called Sunfighter. Paul Kantner and Grace Slick of Jefferson Airplane fame named their daughter China and put her on the cover of the album, being held in the sunset of a blood red ocean.
I think it’s pretty amazing that rock and roll has been telling us for 50 years and more how we are wasting the planet, how we are running through all our resources, how everything in the future is going to be screwed up. Rock and roll was right!
The album itself was rank with themes of overcrowding and greed. Here’s the leadoff song, that includes the line “where are the bodies for dinner, I want my food.” Silver Spoon, from Paul Kantner and Grace Slick.
