David Grisman plays many instruments besides the mandolin, but that’s the one that made him famous. While attending NYU back in 63, he joined the Even Dozen Jug Band which included Maria Muldaur and John Sebastian. From there he was one of the Kentuckians, then part of the highly progressive Earth Opera. Then he met Jerry Garcia and started appearing with the Grateful Dead. The David Grisman Quintet began life in 1976. Today we pick up on them in 1980 after a few personnel changes, in the band at this point are violinist Darol Anger as well as Mark O’Connor who played anything that could be strung.
